Happy New Year!

So New Year’s Eve was the definition of uneventful. Veronica was asleep, and so was Rob (on the couch – after drinking coffee!). I was playing World of Warcraft, and midnight came and went without my notice. Then I slept in super-late this morning, watched a little of the Tournament of Roses Parade, and went to Target. Yay!

Christmas was terrific. If anything, Veronica got too many presents. She was kind of overstimulated by the whole thing and acted a bit cranky for the rest of the day. She did enjoy her presents though, and eventually got into tearing off the wrapping paper quite a bit. Her favorite gifts:

  • Mr. Potato Head (from Grandpa)
  • Thomas the Tank Engine Duplo set and a Yo Gabba Gabba guitar (from Daddy)
  • Dora doll and backpack (from Mommy)

To Rob’s eternal disappointment, she didn’t seem impressed by the new Elmo Live doll at all. But he seemed to enjoy his own gifts, especially the new Sony Cybershot digital camera that I got him, and a set of notebooks/calendar/pencils/pens from Field Notes.

As for me, my dad got me cash (which is always a thoughtful gift!). My best friend got me a gift certificate for our community fitness center, so maybe I’ll get off my ass and get some exercise in the new year. And Rob got me two things right off my wish list on Amazon (a pair of slippers and a Wii Fit), and one that was a total surprise – a necklace from Tiffany.

The day after Christmas, I got my first mammogram. It wasn’t nearly as bad as I’d feared (and I’d been procrastinating about making the appointment for almost a year). Somewhat uncomfortable – I wouldn’t want to do it every week or anything. But it wasn’t that bad, all things considered. Didn’t really hurt my boobs at all – just hurt the part where they attach to the rest of me!

We didn’t travel for the holidays, thank God. I ate too much, and enjoyed my time off work intensely. As of tomorrow, it’s back into a routine – sort of. Unfortunately, the president of the company I work for died on Christmas Day. This was not unexpected (she struggled against ovarian cancer for several years), but it’s still a blow. Tomorrow morning I’m going to her wake, and then I have a doctor’s appointment in the afternoon. Next week should be closer to normal, but I already have what seems like an appointment for something every single day: a haircut, a dental appointment to have a crown replaced, a facial/laser treatment. I’m already thinking about postponing the dental appointment for a few weeks. I’m just too overwhelmed right now.

And here’s a bonus for you: a video for song of the day. Santogold. She’s…inexplicable. I love it.
