Did you know the U.S. Government has an “official web portal?” I didn’t, until today. I don’t know why I didn’t know about it, but whatever. At FirstGov.gov you can actually do some useful and/or interesting things, like find out how to get or renew a passport, contact elected officials, find lots of statistics, and keep up with those weird regulations on what you can or can’t take on an airplane.
I thought the image search (which I read about today on Lifehacker) was really cool. You get to see results and an index by collection, which can lead to some interesting browsing. Check out the first result page for “presidential pets” (I’m not sure why a picture of Bill Clinton all by himself shows up, but OK!).
Anyway, it’s good to see there’s a really useful web resource available from the government. Apparently not everyone in Washington is as ignorant as Ted “the Internet is a series of tubes” Stevens!

I started a new job and I’m exhausted. I actually had to work a little bit today (Saturday), though I was able to do it from home. I had a really weird week – not only was I starting my new job, but I had some minor oral surgery on Wednesday, then on Thursday the baby had a fever so we had to pick her up from daycare and take her to the doctor (she’s fine, just a cold).
On top of all that I’ve been on antibiotics since my root canal last week (there’s another fun experience), and they’ve made my stomach really unhappy. I’ll be so glad when I’m done with them!
I did manage to find some fun stuff this week on fd’s Flickr Toys. I made the baby collage with one of them. Gosh I love Web 2.0.

Veronica plays this game with me. She smiles until I put the camera up to take her picture, then she’s all serious and pouty. Then I put the camera down, and she smiles again! So far the baby is winning this game. However, I was able to capture a picture of her starting to smile, by having her Daddy distract her while I snuck in with the camera.
Last night she really laughed for the first time. Not a funny baby sound, but a real giggle. We were getting her undressed for her bath and Daddy was making faces at her. And that’s when it happened! It was AWESOME. This morning she was “talking” (cooing and babbling) like crazy to us before she went to daycare. It’s like she really had something to tell us and was totally excited about it.
Gosh…I hope she wasn’t trying to tell us something like, “If you take me to daycare today, I’m going to spit up all over this cute outfit!”
