Blog Update

The Daily Outfit is working out really well. Polyvore is fun to use – my biggest problem is that a lot of stuff I wear isn’t necessarily in stores anymore, or can’t be found online. So I have to improvise and use things that are close. Otherwise it’s pretty kickass. I don’t actually blog my outfit EVERY day, but I do publish it in a set on Polyvore most days. I’ve added a box to the bottom of the far-right column which has a link to my RSS feed of Polyvore sets. Most of them are the daily outfit, but some are contest entries and other miscellaneous stuff.

The Daily Song I’ve been slacking off on, to the point where it’s by no means “daily.” But I’m still doing it at least once or twice a week, and I can live with that.

I’m still loving my new layout, and especially happy that my comments now support Gravatars. What’s a Gravatar? It’s an icon that you can use to represent yourself across a variety of websites, and it’s keyed from your email address. Go here to sign up for one!

Have a great weekend, everybody!

Daily Outfit – July 31, 2009

How wild is it – the end of July already? I’d say that summer is going really fast, but I know we’ll have unbearably hot weather here until at least October, so it’s really not going to go by quickly at all.

I was not really into coming to work today, so I decided if I had to go, I would go in something comfortable. So I put on a soft t-shirt, straight-leg jeans, and sneakers. Of course, in an outfit like this, with my short spikey hair, I run the risk of looking rather butch. The solution? Ridiculous, long, chandelier earrings that scream “girly-girl!!” So now I’m glamorous and comfortable. Win.

Brief Thoughts on a Creep

The creep in question is Jon Gosselin. I’ve never been an avid fan of that “Jon & Kate Plus 8″ show but I firmly believe, as I’ve stated here in the past, that Kate is getting a raw deal in all of this. Everyone seems to think she’s so horrible, yet nobody calls out the juvenile douchebag she’s married to (at least until the divorce goes through)? The one who’s jet-setting all over Europe and the US, living in a fancy bachelor pad in NYC, hanging out with a member of America’s original dysfunctional familiy (the Lohans), and wearing a series of ugly-ass shirts as he flits from one bimbo to the next?

Jon Gosselin is VILE.

You know what else is vile? Ed Hardy, the brand that he’s apparently so enamored of, he’s now going to design a line of children’s clothing for them. And they must already pay him plenty, because he wears their fugly shirts all over the damn place. Unfortunately, I’m seeing this Ed Hardy shit EVERYWHERE. Watches and shirts at Macy’s, bags and shoes at DSW, etc. etc. ad nauseum. Well, I’ve made a conscious decision that not only will I never buy any Ed Hardy crap for myself, but Ed Hardy products will never be allowed in my house under any circumstances (kind of like Bratz dolls).

To be perfectly honest, this really won’t be hard since just about every Ed Hardy tchotchke I’ve seen was ridiculously fugly anyway. But still! I’m taking a stand against fugly products endorsed by douchebags! SO THERE, JON GOSSELIN!

Old Navy! Say it ain’t so!

In the Spring of this year, a web site called 24/7 Wall Street published a list of “Twelve Major Brands That Will Disappear.” One of the brands on their list was Old Navy. There’s been a lot of conjecture about Gap possibly doing away with value-priced chain Old Navy, especially after the very disappointing sales figures last year. I guess you could chalk the rumors about Old Navy going out of business up to just that – rumors. But other businesses on this list are already failing – notably Crocs and Eddie Bauer, which just put itself up for sale. So it’s hard to discount this analysis of the failing brand that Old Navy has become.

However, I still hope they turn it around, because I LOVE OLD NAVY. I remember way back when, when Old Navy first opened, it was sort of the outlet store for The Gap, but they soon grew into their own. Now I buy things from Old Navy all the time, both for myself and my daughter. Let’s face it – their clothes are cheap, and in some cases, cheaply  made. However, some of the things I’ve purchased at Old Navy have lasted years. And seriously? If I pay $7.99 for a t-shirt, wear it once a week all summer, and have to throw it away after a few months because it’s so stretched out and droopy, I still think I got my money’s worth. And while it still looks good, it looks GREAT. Plus, Old Navy has a really good range of sizes in everything. They sell plus sizes online, but even in the store you can get shirts from size extra-small to extra-extra-large, and pants from 0 to 20.

Old Navy is really awesome for kids’ clothes. I bought lots of the Bean’s baby clothes there, especially pajamas and playsuits. Now that she’s older, a few times a year, I shop online and pick out basics for her – dresses, t-shirts, shorts and leggings. She’s gotten lots of wear out of the things I’ve bought for her, and I haven’t had to spend a fortune on clothes she’s going to outgrow in six months anyway.

I really hope Old Navy beats the odds.

Daily Outfit – July 28, 2009

This is only the second time I’ve worn these Fluevog shoes. When I first got them, they felt SO comfortable, I didn’t think I’d have any problem with them. Then the first time I actually wore them all day, they rubbed my foot and gave me a blister – ouch. This weekend I did some diagnosis on them and figured out it was only the left shoe that was a problem (who knows why – maybe my left foot is bigger!). After narrowing down exactly where the rubbing was occurring, I decided that the toe strap just felt too tight on the left foot, a situation I remedied with a shoe stretcher like this one. After two nights of treatment with the stretcher, the shoe feels exactly right and I can wear my lovely Fluevogs with no pain!

I think they look pretty rad with my pencil skirt and half-sleeve t-shirt.
